This annual 5K Run and Stroller Stroll to support Community Health, Life-skills, Opportunities & Education, Inc [aka CHLOE, Inc] The event draws serious runners in training, friends, neighbors, and families to Gahanna’s Creekside Park every year to support the important work of equipping and empowering teen moms. Both individuals and groups enjoy the festive environment while supporting a great cause. Those living a distance are invited to participate virtually! Kids are included by the addition of the 100-meter Pumpkin Fun Run! The Fountain at Creekside is the gathering spot and the selected trail provides a lovely backdrop for runners, walkers and those with strollers.
To learn more about CHLOE see www.chloeinc.org. Young moms live on a slippery slope; too many slide into poverty, abuse and despair with their children in tow. You can make a difference.
CHLOE’s mission is to equip and empower young moms, (ages 13-21) helping them to become capable nurturing parents as they make strides toward self-sufficiency. We know that by equipping and empowering young moms, serious social problems including poverty (especially child poverty), rapid repeat pregnancy, child abuse and neglect, father absence, low birth weight, school failure and poor preparation for the workforce are impacted.
We know that young parents are highly motivated to improve their socio economic lot shortly after the birth of a child and because children of teen parents constitute the majority of children living in poverty, we help young parent families avoid or break cycles of poverty.
CHLOE embraces a holistic commitment to addressing the issue of adolescents parenting. Our commitment is multifaceted; understanding that each person’s needs include spiritual, social, psychological, and physical nurturing. We understand that adolescent parents are often trapped by multiple, interconnected factors such as insufficient assets, vulnerability, powerlessness, isolation and physical disparities. These factors compel us to approach the issues and barriers through a mindset rooted in the desire to guide those we serve toward a full expression of their unique potential.
A commitment through all levels of organization leadership includes a unified purpose to equip and empower each young mom we serve to move toward financial self-sufficiency while learning and implementing nurturing parenting and self care skills. Such intent guides each decision in volunteer recruitment, lesson planning, mentor training and childcare. All profit earned from the 5K event will go into the organization’s general fund of which 90% is spent on programing costs.
